How do I get my free sample questions?
To get samples, e-mail or call us. We will e-mail sample questions to match your state and grade level. Note that by requesting samples, you are "opting in" to our e-mail list that we use a few times each school year to advertise our products or quiz tournaments in your area.
How does your subscription service work?
When our subscription service begins again on October 5, 2009, most subscribers will be able to play a practice game each week (or half a game, in some cases) in their specific state/local format. Middle schools can receive sets of tossups, 2-part bonuses and 4-part bonuses. High schools can receive all of those, plus lightning rounds and worksheets. We will not have a set for elementary schools (unless they want to try the middle school sets) but will have more elementary school practice and tournament sets available than ever before, including for individual grades 3-6.
What happened to Patrick's Press?
As noted on our blog, the owner of Patrick's Press passed away in the spring of 2009. We purchased their mailing list to contact their customers and offer to write for them in 2009-10. Ask for our free sample questions before making a decision; we think you'll like them!
How do I buy old questions for practice?
For old question sets, click your level of school at the top of the page and then select your state on the new page. There may be a glitch or two at the moment, but we should have it all together by Labor Day 2009.
How much will my tournament or league cost to write?
Because our business is almost 100% custom question sets, the short answer is, "it depends" --on number of rounds, complexity of format, deadline for completion and a few other things. But we will send you an official price in writing (by e-mail) and can put together a more detailed proposal as needed.
How do I pay for stuff?
Our material can be purchased by e-mailing or phoning in your PO number, with a credit card by phone (Visa/MC), through our website's PayPal setup, or by sending a check to our address at the bottom of the screen. If you give a PO number, we will put that number on the invoice that we e-mail you with the material. Just drop the invoice off with your bookkeeper on your way home!
What about National Science Bowl?
We offer 6 practice sets [5 games each] of Science Bowl-formatted questions (3 sets for middle school and 3 for high school). These are intended for either individual team practice or for use in pre-Regionals tournaments between schools that want to get better but have already used all of the practice games the Energy Department puts out each year.
How can I advertise my tournament for free?
2-3 weeks before your tournament, contact us with the basic information (date, time, contact info, fees, format, vendor [even if it's not us], etc.) We will send an e-mail with this information to everyone in your state or nearby area who has opted in to receive e-mails from us. This could easily double the number of teams who typically attend your event--which translates into more money for your team to use in attending state/national championship events, etc.
What about your honors academic competitions?
Our honors competitions are question sets that challenge the top students in an individual school or district and often combine the look and feel of standardized tests with material often found in top-level quizbowl. We offer high-school math and English material each year, plus custom sets as needed at any level. Contact us with your requirements!
