College -
High School - Middle School - Elementary School November 6, 2008We just got an order for a large set of elementary-school questions from Roswell, New Mexico. (insert your favorite UFO joke here) So as we're getting those together through the rest of 2008, we will be happy to send some to your elementary school, too! Just e-mail us through the link at the bottom of the page and we'll get you fixed up. Quiz games are a great way to have fun with learning; sometimes the kids who are quietest (or the ones never seeming to pay attention) turn out to be the best players! October 13, 2008We are sending out our first subscription sets of the year today. The questions are done and uploaded to the web site, and we are now processing all the last-minute orders. We will send the links out to everyone sometime today, but it may be after school on the East Coast before you get them. After this week, the college and HS sets will get out earlier in the day; the first MS sets next week may be a bit late getting out--for the same reason. October 9, 2008As we are letting people know about our subscription service through direct e-mail, we have been using the standard direct-mail idea of contacting people 3 different times. But we have discovered that our duplicate e-mail remover is case-sensitive, so some people with a capital letter somewhere in their address have been getting each of our messages twice. At the same time, we have found that some people have been on 2 different internal lists. So some people have really been hearing from us an awful lot lately--and we apologize. A few have asked to be removed from our list and then discovered they were on more than one of our lists. We apologize for that, too. Not being in the business of hassling people, we are getting things together to ensure this is straightened out ASAP. October 8, 2008This week, we finished our first set of math tournaments for a set of school districts in New York; the problems are used in their qualifying events for the New York State Math League. We also picked up a quiz league from Indiana who had been putting their own tournament sets together by hand each year from a set of questions provided by one of America's largest suppliers. Once the league's coaches saw our better material in their own 4-quarter format (and that it comes to them already formatted in games), they had no qualms about switching over to us. If your league's still putting together games by hand, drop us an e-mail and let us save you from that chore! In the next week or so, we will be finishing our large set of Illinois Scholastic Bowl questions. The state is one of our largest customers, and the top teams there are as good as any in America. If your Scholastic Bowl league or tournament is coming up, we'll be happy to help you! Finally, our 2008-09 quizbowl subscription service (which brings you quality tossups or bonuses downloaded directly from our website) will begin next Monday, October 13. Sign up for this service today! September 29, 2008This week, we're finishing the fall tournament at Texas's Sam Houston State University (which should be almost back to normal by then following Hurricane Ike) and finishing some math competitions for a school district in western New York. We are trying to work things out to offer those problem sets to other school districts who can use some extra math work for their top students. Our marketing blitz continues to make sure everyone knows that our subscription service will begin for the year on Mon., Oct. 13. Subscribers get a link to our website so they can download question sets directly in formatted Microsoft Word files. If you haven't heard from us yet about writing for your quiz tournament or league in 2008-09, drop us an e-mail! September 12, 2008We have updated our list of states below, so take a look! We began our marketing blitz this week with a direct e-mail campaign in several states. If you haven't heard from us yet about writing for your quiz tournament or league in 2008-09, drop us an e-mail! September 6, 2008We hope everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day! Here in northern Colorado, it really was almost the last day of summer, as by Halloween, there's usually sleet/snow on the ground! If your state is not on the list below of specific states we already do (or if it is but your school level isn't there), just drop us an e-mail listing your state, your school and which grade level you would like (college, HS, MS or ES). We will send you a link to our website so you can download that level's sample questions that we had up during the summer. August 30, 2008We have free sample academic competition questions available at the high-school level in the official state-sanctioned formats of:Alabama (both JV and varsity)Arkansas (varsity)Georgia (varsity) (half-game only)Idaho (Scholastic Tournament)Illinois (middle school, JV/frosh-soph and varsity) (half-game only)Kansas (varsity)Kentucky (varsity) (half-game only)Missouri (middle school, JV/frosh-soph and varsity) (half-game only)North Carolina (NCOAST)Ohio (OAC)Oklahoma (varsity) (half-game only) , andPennsylvania (state Academic Competition)In addition, we offer a sample game in the 4-quarter "Questions Unlimited" format used in Indiana, Louisiana, New York and Texas. We even offer a sample oral round from the written/oral "Knowledge Bowl" format used in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and Washington! August 20, 2008As we get ready for our September marketing blitz, we have added a set of lightning rounds (10 questions in 60 seconds) and a set of worksheets to our catalog. Lightning-round sets are used in the state formats of Indiana, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New York and Texas, along with individual tournaments in Missouri and other states. Worksheet rounds are used in the state formats of Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina and Ohio, along with individual tournaments in other states. If your team's league or next tournament specifies a worksheet round, you can use practice. Pick up your set of 25 worksheets today! Pick up your lightning round and worksheet sets today to be ready for your team's first practice session! August 10, 2008People sometimes ask us, "Where do you get your ideas for quiz material from?" One common place is newspapers. Though some competitors count "recent events" questions as anything in the last 3-5 years, ours are usually a lot more up-to-date--in fact, a news story one Thursday may appear in some form in the next week's set of questions from our subscription services (which will all start again on October 13). For 2008-09, you should expect questions on recent major news events such as presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, the major parties' political conventions, and the Beijing Olympics. So pay attention from day to day and read a little extra about those things--it's likely to pay off in extra points! July 30, 2008During the 2008-09 school year, we will discuss quizbowl here a couple of times each month and highlight some of the services we provide to schools all over the world. In the meantime, enjoy your last few days of summer, as many schools start in mid-August! (Back in my day, school never started until after Labor Day--and it should still be that way; taking kids' August away from them is just plain cruel.) |
